Pattani:Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul convened a meeting with governors from 14 southern provinces to strategize on handling potential flooding due to anticipated heavy rainfall. The meeting focused on ensuring the safety of residents and providing necessary supplies during the expected adverse weather conditions.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin, who also serves as the Minister of Interior and Commander-in-Chief of the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command, led the session to assess the situation and plan assistance for flood-affected areas. Key figures such as Deputy Prime Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn and other ministers attended the meeting both in person and online.
Anutin stressed the importance of readiness, urging officials to prepare evacuation plans and shelters, especially for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and bedridden patients. He highlighted the need for clear communication with the public, to ensure they understand evacuation procedures and safety steps.
The Prime Minister outlined seven directives for flood preparedness, including the assessment of high-risk areas, improvement of drainage systems, and coordination between regions to avoid redundancy and maximize resource allocation. He also emphasized the importance of disseminating accurate information through social media and official government channels.
Officials were directed to publicize the National Disaster Insurance policy, which began on October 1, 2026, covering various natural disasters across 30 million households. Provinces were instructed to declare disaster areas promptly to facilitate insurance claims, with initial compensation set at 10,000 baht per household and additional coverage for repairs and fatalities.
