Bangkok: Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, has launched a new policy initiative aimed at eradicating violence against women at the local level. The initiative emphasizes the collaboration across various sectors to utilize data effectively for seamless action.

According to Thai News Agency, the policy statement event was attended by notable figures including Thananon Niramis, the Prime Minister’s wife and honorary advisor to the Interior Ministry Housewives Association, and several ministers and executives from various ministries. More than 1,800 participants, including representatives from housewives associations, government agencies, the private sector, and the public, were present.

Prime Minister Anutin highlighted the significance of this mission, underscoring the importance of protecting women, who make up over half of the population. He stated that women are an essential force in Thailand’s social and economic spheres, and ensuring their safety is crucial for the nation’s potential. The government aims to enhance past efforts by achieving tangible results at the local level this year. Anutin has tasked the Ministry of Interior with spearheading this initiative, as it is the government body closest to the people. The plan includes proactive prevention strategies to raise awareness and support schools, families, and community leaders in recognizing and preventing violence.

Anutin also stressed the importance of data integration at provincial and district levels. He directed various ministries and organizations, including the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Ministry of Public Health, the police, and local administrative bodies, to share data for prompt and consistent support for women. This support includes treatment, incident reporting, and protection, facilitated through secure channels like hotlines and applications.

In his statement, Anutin expressed gratitude to civil society and ground-level organizations, acknowledging their crucial role as the first point of contact for victims. He affirmed the government’s commitment to collaborating with all sectors, including ministries, local governments, the private sector, civil society, and international organizations, to ensure the safety and protection of women.
