Prime Minister Assures Thai-Cambodian Border Stability Amidst Parliament Dissolution Plans

Bangkok: The Prime Minister asserts that the scheduled dissolution of parliament will not impact the Thai-Cambodian border, trusting that security measures are already in place to manage any potential issues. He confirmed that the decision to dissolve parliament lies within the Prime Minister’s purview.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul addressed concerns regarding the potential dissolution of parliament and its implications for national security and border tensions. He clarified that these issues are disconnected, emphasizing that safeguarding national sovereignty remains the core duty of security forces.

Amidst rumors about discussions involving Bhumjaithai Party leaders on the parliament dissolution timeline, Mr. Anutin expressed skepticism, questioning the existence of such meetings. He reiterated, “The authority to dissolve parliament is vested in the Prime Minister, who must seek the King’s approval for the matter.” When asked about the timeline, he reaffirmed, “This falls under the Prime Minister’s jurisdiction.”

Regarding the Prime Minister’s recent indication that parliament dissolution would occur before January 31st, Mr. Anutin confirmed, “Yes, that’s right. We’re evaluating the situation and its appropriateness.” He subtly affirmed that preparations for a royal decree on parliamentary dissolution were underway.

When questioned about the progress of the constitutional amendment’s third reading, Mr. Anutin mentioned ongoing efforts to advance according to the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). However, he refrained from commenting on whether the dissolution would be postponed if border conflicts persisted, choosing instead to proceed to an awaiting meeting.
