Bangkok: The Prime Minister held an urgent meeting with the Secretary-General of the National Security Council to address critical issues involving the Thai-Cambodian border. Cambodian operatives reportedly seized Chinese-made missiles, prompting immediate government attention. The Prime Minister also dismissed concerns regarding the timing of the new MPs’ unveiling amidst ongoing tensions.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul invited Mr. Chatchai Bangchawad, Secretary-General of the National Security Council (NSC), for discussions at Government House. The agenda included strategies to intercept the maritime transport of military supplies and the recent seizure of a Chinese-made GAM-102 LR fifth-generation anti-tank missile system at Hill 500. Additionally, the infiltration of Cambodian spies and mercenaries into Thailand was a key topic. The Prime Minister assured that these situations are under surveillance, with the impacted areas being closely monitored.
On the matter of assisting Thai citizens wishing to return by air, the Prime Minister stated that Thailand is prepared to offer necessary support, although specific plans with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have yet to be finalized. He emphasized that the current operations are proceeding normally without requiring his explicit consent, allowing agencies to ensure the safety and convenience of Thai citizens. He noted the possibility of chartering a commercial aircraft to facilitate their return, acknowledging reports of several thousand Thai citizens stranded abroad and pledging to expedite their repatriation.
Regarding the potential extension of martial law, the Prime Minister remarked that while it depends on evolving circumstances, it appears increasingly likely that such measures will be necessary.
