Prime Minister Orders Overhaul of Military Intelligence to Enhance Security

Bangkok: “Big Lek” has disclosed that the Prime Minister has mandated changes to military intelligence and has reiterated his stance on not discussing the GBC, focusing instead on the Nong Chan issue. The Prime Minister has initiated the formation of a Security Policy Committee aimed at enhancing the speed and cohesion of military intelligence operations. This committee, which will be chaired by the Prime Minister, seeks to improve the efficiency of handling security matters without deviating from existing Cabinet orders.

According to Thai News Agency, General Nattapol Nakphanit, the Minister of Defense, addressed the media following the 10/2025 Defense Council meeting. He highlighted that the Military Intelligence Department had provided a comprehensive report on the Thai-Cambodian border situation. The Prime Minister has tasked him with preparing an order for the newly established Border Security Policy Committee. This committee will include high-ranking officials such as the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and other key figures from the defense and foreign affairs sectors. Their primary focus will be to deliberate on security decisions before presenting them to the National Security Council, which is currently working on drafting the necessary order.

General Natthapol clarified his stance on the GBC meeting, stating he will not attend future gatherings, although he has previously agreed to meetings with Cambodia. He emphasized that any meeting would solely focus on border issues, aligning with his previous statements. The intent is to establish boundaries for the Ban Nong Chan area in Sa Kaeo Province without diverting into personnel-related discussions.

In response to inquiries about the situation of Thais in Cambodia, General Nattapol mentioned that the Cabinet has instructed the Minister of Foreign Affairs to verify relevant information through established mechanisms. Although the military is prepared to offer support, the current process involves the Ministry of Foreign Affairs conducting an investigation.

Addressing concerns about potential misinformation from Cambodia, General Nattapol stated that the Ministry of Defense is committed to countering such narratives with truth and expedience. The armed forces are prepared to respond to any operational line intrusions from Cambodian forces, following a protocol that escalates from verbal warnings to direct fire if necessary.

Finally, when questioned about Cambodia’s alleged violations of international conventions, General Nattapol indicated that the military would collaborate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to address these issues. He stressed the importance of condemning such actions to highlight Cambodia’s diminishing international credibility.
