Rome: Rangsiman Rome, a party-list MP and Deputy Leader of the Prachachon Party, criticized Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with eight agencies to combat technology crime, labeling it as just a formality.
According to Thai News Agency, Rome expressed concerns regarding the actual implementation of the MOU, emphasizing that without proper execution and investigation into financial connections, suppressing scammers remains an improbable goal. He argued that merely signing the MOU and showcasing cooperation has not produced tangible outcomes, which the public expects, such as the dismantling of gray capital. Despite intensified investigations leading to the seizure of websites, there has been no significant progress in tackling main actors involved in scams.
Rome also highlighted issues surrounding Captain Thammanat Prompao’s position as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives. Rome asserted that the government’s confidence is undermined by continuing support for Thammanat, who is suspected of having connections with global figures like Ben Smith involved in scams. He stressed that removing Thammanat is crucial for restoring public trust.
When questioned about Thammanat’s removal, Rome pointed out Captain Thammanat’s alleged links with Ben Smith. He criticized the Prime Minister’s lack of suspicion regarding Thammanat’s relationships and urged for transparency and action. Rome called on Chada Thaiset, an MP for Uthai Thani and the Bhumjaithai Party, to inform the Prime Minister about who the culprits are, emphasizing Chada’s knowledge of the situation.
