Roi et: Roi Et Province has introduced an exciting addition to its cultural calendar with the "Khao Pun Saw Road" festival in Phanom Phrai District, offering a unique opportunity to enjoy free Northeastern Thai rice noodles while engaging in water activities.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Jiraporn Sindhuphai, Member of Parliament for Roi Et Province from the Pheu Thai Party, has invited the public to partake in this inaugural Songkran festival, aiming to establish 'Khao Pun Saw Road' as a new landmark in Phanom Phrai District. Scheduled for April 13-14, 2026, the event is designed to become an annual tradition that attracts tourists, creates jobs, and boosts the local economy.
Ms. Jiraporn noted the success of the 2025 Songkran Festival at Sanam Luang, which drew numerous foreign tourists and generated significant revenue for the country. Building on this success, she is extending the initiative to other regions, with a focus this year on promoting Phanom Phrai District as a center of local tradition and economic growth.
The festival, set up in front of the Phanom Phrai District Office, showcased several attractions, including a 30-meter-long water tunnel and musical performances by local bands and EDM artists. The event's centerpiece, "Khao Pun Saw," or Khanom Jeen Nam Prung, is a celebrated local dish featuring traditional rice noodles served with local vegetables and a special fermented fish sauce. These were offered free to all attendees, adding culinary delight to the vibrant celebrations.
