Ubon ratchathani: The Royal Thai Army, in partnership with media and public representatives, organized a seminar titled "TOGETHER FOR TRUST" aimed at enhancing border security efforts. The event underscored the importance of accurate media reporting in supporting military missions and fostering public trust.
According to Thai News Agency, the seminar featured a panel discussion led by Major General Winthai Suwaree, Deputy Director of the Army's Civil Affairs Department and Army Spokesperson. The discussion, themed "Collaborative Thinking, Collaborative Communication for Border Security," was attended by various military and media representatives, including the Army Public Relations Center and the 2nd Army Area Public Relations Center. Lieutenant General Piyaphan Thitwattananon, Commander of the 2nd Army Area, emphasized the critical role of communication in avoiding misinformation that could lead to unnecessary panic and harm to both the military and the public.
Major General Winthai stressed the necessity of public involvement in military operations, noting that while front-line duties are primarily military responsibilities, civilian agencies and social sectors play a crucial role in support. He highlighted the challenges of conveying accurate information, particularly when misrepresentations occur at the central level, leading to public misperceptions. However, he acknowledged the positive intentions behind public concerns for national safety.
Addressing tactical decisions, Major General Winthai clarified misconceptions about bunker deployment, explaining that tactical limitations prevent widespread bunker distribution, which could hinder defensive operations. He stated that unit commanders make strategic decisions based on situational needs, reinforcing the importance of local discretion in military operations.
The seminar also reflected the media's call for timely and fair reporting, suggesting that the military engage with media outlets to ensure accurate information dissemination. This dialogue is seen as vital in shaping how security issues are portrayed, ultimately benefiting national security efforts.
