Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army has launched a new military operation named “Operation Century” to reclaim Thai territory following recent clashes along the Thai-Cambodian border. This operation honors Sergeant Major Satthawat Sujarit, the first soldier to die in the conflict.
According to Thai News Agency, the operation commenced after Cambodian soldiers opened fire on Thai troops on December 7, 2025, leading to the start of hostilities on December 8, 2025. The initial operation, known as “Operation Yutthabodin,” transitioned into “Operation Century” after the loss of Sergeant Major Satthawat Sujarit, a member of the 6th Cavalry Reconnaissance Company, who died in the battle at Chong An Ma, Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani Province.
The fighting has resulted in a death toll of six, with 68 individuals wounded since the clashes began. In addition to Sergeant Major Sujarit, four soldiers lost their lives on December 9th: Private Wayu Khwanseua, Sergeant Chawakorn Dechkhunthod, Sergeant Major Jirawat Mungklang, and Private Therdasak Srilachai. On December 10th, the death of Sergeant Major Ananda Udon was reported, marking the sixth fatality in the ongoing Battle of Phumakhuea.
