Phuket: The Royal Thai Navy has taken swift action to rescue a cargo ship that sank near Koh Kaew Noi. The operation underscores the navy's commitment to providing round-the-clock assistance to those in need at sea.

According to Thai News Agency, Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaiyapan, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Navy, reported that the Maritime Security Command Region 3 (MSCR 3) was alerted to the distress of the Panamanian-flagged cargo ship SEALLOYD ARC. The ship, with a displacement of 4,339 tons, was at risk of sinking approximately 10 nautical miles from the coast. In response, the Royal Thai Navy promptly dispatched personnel to offer assistance.

The Third Naval Area Command swiftly initiated rescue operations, deploying warships and aircraft to the location. Coordination with relevant agencies was established for the search and rescue of the crew. Efforts are also underway to monitor potential fuel spills that could impact the marine environment. Oil containment booms have been requested to mitigate environmental damage, and a war room has been set up with provincial authorities and relevant agencies for close management of the situation. All 16 crew members have been successfully rescued and brought to shore for necessary procedures.

Recent updates reveal that the vessel sank at 8:00 PM. The Third Naval Area Command is actively coordinating efforts to use oil booms to contain the spill and recover 297 containers. It is estimated that over 100 tons of oil have leaked from the sunken ship.
