Royal Thai Navy Warns Against Navigating the Strait of Hormuz

Bangkok: The Royal Thai Navy has issued a warning to Thai shipping operators to avoid the Strait of Hormuz due to security concerns. A spokesperson for the Thai Navy expressed gratitude to the Omani Navy for their assistance to a Thai crew, emphasizing that warnings had been previously communicated to mitigate risks in the area.

According to Thai News Agency, Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaiyapan, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Navy, acknowledged the Omani Navy's support and highlighted the ongoing cooperation between the two navies through past anti-piracy missions. This collaboration aims to strengthen mutual relations and ensure the safety of Thai vessels.

The Navy has actively monitored maritime navigation risks and issued advisory notices to the Thai Shipowners Association and shipping companies on February 24th and March 2nd, 2026. These notices urged operators to reconsider routes through the Strait of Hormuz, a region identified with elevated security threats.

On March 6th, a meeting was convened by the Royal Thai Navy at its headquarters, involving government agencies, the private sector, and shipping companies. The objective was to establish safety guidelines for Thai cargo ships operating in high-risk maritime zones.

The Royal Thai Navy Operations Center, operating through the Maritime Traffic Control Center, remains the primary hub for coordinating the monitoring of Thai vessels near or within high-risk areas surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. It maintains daily communications with relevant agencies to ensure informed and safe navigation planning.
