Bangkok: The Royal Thai Police’s Crime Suppression Division (CSD) and Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) have initiated Operation “Lightning Strike to Crack Down on Fake Bank Accounts Nationwide.” This operation aligns with the government’s policy to make the suppression of technology crimes a national agenda, due to the severe and widespread impact of such crimes on the public, economy, and national security.
According to Thai News Agency, the Royal Thai Police, led by Commissioner-General Police General Kittirat Panpetch, has been diligently implementing measures to combat technology crimes. The “Royal Thai Police Technology Crime Suppression Center” (Police Cyber Taskforce) has been established to drive this effort. Pol. Gen. Thana Chuwong, Deputy Commissioner-General, has been appointed Director of the PCT, with Pol. Lt. Gen. Jiraphop Phuridet serving as Deputy Director. The PCT aims to expedite the resolution of these issues through a unified operational approach.
Data from the online reporting system indicates that over 1,092,000 cybercrime cases have been filed since March 1, 2022, with damages exceeding 100 billion baht. The Royal Thai Police has instructed the Anti-Cyber Scam Center to disrupt call center gangs and prevent further damage. Analysis from the Anti-Online Fraud Center highlights mule accounts as a tool for profiting from fraud, with over 50,000 mule accounts reported each month.
Pol. Gen. Thana Chuwong issued a directive for a nationwide crackdown on cybercrime-related offenses from November 18-26, 2025. This effort, involving multiple police departments, led to the arrest of 342 suspects and the identification of 87 individuals for further questioning. Investigations have expanded to 57 additional targets across 27 provinces in Thailand.
Key arrests include foreigners setting up a fraudulent cryptocurrency investment website, a Chinese national involved in cash withdrawals for scams, and a female call center gang member. The operation aims to enhance public safety and confidence in police efforts while minimizing damage to the public and economy.
