Sarawong Criticizes Attakorn’s Leadership on SEA Games Organization

Bangkok: "Sorawong" countered "Attakorn," stating that the position of Minister comes with responsibility, not excuses, after a heated speech regarding criticism of the substandard organization of the SEA Games.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sarawong Thianthong, a Pheu Thai Party candidate for Member of Parliament in Sa Kaeo Province, Constituency 3, and former Minister of Tourism and Sports, commented on the statement made by Minister of Tourism and Sports, Attakorn Sirilatthayakon, during a rally. His remarks regarding the SEA Games, which drew widespread criticism for not meeting standards, were deeply concerning. Mr. Thianthong stated that after watching the video, he was concerned about Minister Sirilatthayakon's approach to leadership. He emphasized that a minister's position comes with significant power and responsibility, and therefore, leadership should be demonstrated by acknowledging the facts and consequences of decisions, rather than shifting blame to others. He further noted that the changes and cancellations to several plans were made by the administration at short notice, inevitably impacting the overall organization of the event, a fact that society can assess based on the available evidence.

Regarding Mr. Attakorn's statement that his appointment as a minister was not a coincidence or a "lucky windfall," Mr. Surawong said he wanted the public to judge for themselves based on tangible results, to determine how well his claims are supported. Throughout his career, he has never prioritized political issues, but rather focused on the interests and image of the nation. Ultimately, he believes that official position is not something to be used to describe oneself, but rather, it is duty that must be proven through concrete results for society to see.
