Bangkok: The Secretary-General of the Election Commission has called on citizens to exercise their right to vote, emphasizing the importance of participation in the democratic process. He noted that vote-buying activities had been detected in two to three locations and reiterated the need for vigilance.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Saeng Boonmee, the Secretary-General of the Election Commission, urged people to participate in the elections and referendums by accepting three ballots: a pink ballot for selecting a party, a green ballot for choosing a local candidate, and a third ballot concerning constitutional amendments. The voting procedure is designed for efficiency, with polling stations arranged in a U-shape to facilitate the process in one visit.
Mr. Saeng highlighted that a significant turnout of 80% is anticipated across more than 100,000 polling stations nationwide. He advised voters to bring their national ID cards, even if expired, or any government-issued card with a photograph, along with their 13-digit national ID number, to ensure a smooth voting process. For those voting in advance, specific locations will be designated for casting votes on the constitutional amendment referendum.
Mr. Saeng also revealed that the Election Commission, collaborating with security agencies, had intercepted and seized evidence of vote-buying preparations in a few locations. Security agencies have been vigilant in monitoring campaign workers suspected of engaging in vote-buying activities. The Election Commission plans to provide ongoing updates on the election atmosphere and developments throughout the day until the completion of vote counting.
