Bangkok: "Sihasak" is confident that UNESCO is poised to register "Thai traditional dress" as an intangible cultural heritage of the world this year. Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkaew revealed the results of discussions with Mr. Khaled Ahmed El-Enany Ali Ezz, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), regarding Thailand's proposal to register "Thai traditional dress" as a Representative Item of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity to UNESCO in 2026. He stated that there is a high probability that UNESCO will register Thai traditional dress this year because it is a truly unique Thai identity and its history can be proven.
According to Thai News Agency, the Minister of Foreign Affairs also stated that Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana places great importance on Thai traditional clothing and that he believes it can be registered as an intangible cultural heritage at the committee meeting which will be hosted by China this year.
