Bangkok: The atmosphere is getting lively! Silom Road is closed for the last day of Songkran celebrations, and tourists are gradually arriving in the area. At 12:30 PM on April 14th, 2026, the final day of the Songkran festival, the atmosphere on Silom Road began to liven up and become very vibrant again. Police and related agencies began closing traffic from Sala Daeng intersection to Nararom intersection, transforming the business street into a large water-playing area.
According to Thai News Agency, large numbers of Thai citizens and foreign tourists have begun arriving in the area, most prepared with water guns and waterproof phone cases. Security measures include checkpoints at main entrances to check for alcohol levels, and weapons and talcum powder are prohibited in the area to maintain order.
As soon as the road was closed, groups of tourists who had been waiting on the sidewalk began to move onto the road surface. Music from the shops lining the street provided a lively atmosphere amidst the sweltering heat.
For those planning to participate in the water splashing festivities in Silom this afternoon and evening, it is recommended to use the BTS Skytrain (Saladaeng Station) or the MRT (Silom Station) for convenience, as surrounding traffic will be closed and parking will be difficult.
Caution: Please cooperate by playing with water respectfully, refrain from using high-pressure water guns, and look after your valuables in the crowded area.
It is expected that throughout the afternoon and evening, the number of people playing with water will increase until the entire Silom Road area is completely filled, before the Songkran festival officially ends at 9:00 PM, as announced by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
