Chiang mai: The Songkran water festival in Chiang Mai remains vibrant as tourists and locals gather around the city's moat for lively water battles. As the afternoon progresses, the atmosphere near Tha Phae Gate becomes increasingly animated with participants brandishing water guns and engaging in spirited water fights.

According to Thai News Agency, the event has led to significant traffic congestion as families and tourists flock to the area, eager to partake in the celebrations. Vehicles, including cars, tuk-tuks, motorcycles, and pickup trucks equipped with water tanks, add to the festive atmosphere. Vendors along the moat are in high spirits, vying for attention with colorful water gear, ready to join in the splashing festivities.

Today also marks "Wan Da" in the Lanna tradition, a day for preparing offerings for merit-making. Many residents visited markets early in the day to gather ingredients and materials for tomorrow's offerings, contributing to the bustling market scenes across the city.

The excitement of Songkran continues to build, with evening festivities promising to be just as engaging. Those looking to join the celebration can head to the moat and Tha Pae Road, where the music and water festivities are set to continue from 6 PM to midnight.
