Bangkok: Social media is cheering on “Anutin” for his role as Prime Minister, saying he is a man. He admits he made mistakes in solving the flooding problem, saying he is “compassionate” and that no one can handle such an event. The government is rushing to implement 8 relief measures.
According to Thai News Agency, reporters noted that after Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul admitted full responsibility for his management of the flooding in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, and the recent criticism of his slow handling of the flood relief efforts, social media has seen a surge of supportive messages and comments on media reports, encouraging Mr. Anutin’s work. For example, “Prime Minister Anutin, I’m so proud of you. You admitted all your fault, made no excuses, and didn’t blame anyone. You accept everything. I’m rooting for you, Prime Minister. No one can handle this situation. You’re working so fast and swiftly. This is the best Thailand has ever seen. You’re a strong-hearted Prime Minister. I’m rooting for you to perform and prove to the people of the South your determination. A man admitting his mistake is a success. Keep fighting, Prime Minister. At least you haven’t abandoned the people. A little encouragement is good enough. Keep working hard.”
However, the government is expediting eight measures to restore the lives of Hat Yai residents and disaster victims in the southern region, providing assistance and rehabilitation to return disaster victims to normalcy as quickly as possible. These measures include debt moratoriums, principal repayments, and interest repayments for commercial and state-owned bank borrowers, up to 1 million baht per person, for one year. They also include 100,000 baht interest-free loans for survival and occupational support for six months, and 100,000 baht interest-free loans for home repairs for one year. Auto insurance companies will compensate for damages according to insurance policies, streamlining procedures and facilitating public convenience. The Social Security Office will “pay the maximum compensation in all cases” to insured persons. The compensation will be paid to families of those who died in the disaster, up to 2 million baht per person, in areas under the Emergency Decree. For SME entrepreneurs, the government
will implement special assistance, support, and business recovery measures as soon as possible. The government will also support tax measures and economic stimulus activities in Hat Yai and the disaster-affected areas to build confidence and attract as many tourists as possible.
