Sophon Affirms Smooth Cooperation with Pheu Thai in Government Formation

Bangkok: "Sophon" is confident that forming a government will proceed smoothly after the opening of parliament. He affirms that working with "Pheu Thai" will be without problems and declines to comment on the possibility of "Kla Tham" joining the government.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister Sophon Saram, speaking at Government House before a meeting of the Steering Committee for the Development of Thailand as an International Health Hub, addressed the Election Commission's forthcoming announcement of the nationwide election results and the election of the Speaker of Parliament.

Mr. Sophon elaborated that the next procedural step involves the Secretary-General of Parliament seeking royal approval for the convening of Parliament, which will lead to the appointment of a Speaker of the House. He indicated that a government could be formed immediately upon the convening of Parliament, stressing the necessity of swift formation in the current political environment.

When questioned about the sufficiency of the current majority of over 290 votes for government formation and the potential inclusion of the Kla Tham Party in the coalition, Mr. Sophon expressed unawareness of any issues concerning MPs' votes or the integration of the Kla Tham Party into the government.

Reporters further inquired about rumors of a Deputy Speaker from the Pheu Thai Party, specifically Ms. Monporn Charoensri, MP for Nakhon Phanom and former Deputy Minister of Transport. Mr. Sophon remarked that such matters are internal to the party and assured that cooperation would be feasible if he assumes the role of Speaker of the House.

Following the interview, Mr. Sophon Saram proceeded to chair the meeting of the Steering Committee for the Development of Thailand as an International Health Hub at Room 301, Government House.
