Sophon Denies Nomination for Speaker of the House by Bhumjaithai Party

Bangkok: Sophon Saram, Deputy Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Buriram Province, has refuted claims that the Bhumjaithai Party has nominated him for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives. He assured that he would excel in any role he assumes. The statement comes amid speculations about the upcoming parliamentary leadership elections.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sophon clarified that the party has not made any resolutions regarding his nomination. He mentioned that the parliamentary opening ceremony is scheduled for March 14th, with the Speaker election following on March 15th. He emphasized that the matter was not part of discussions at the recent Bhumjaithai Party seminar in Buriram or elsewhere, and promised that the truth would be clear in due time.

In response to questions about his readiness to serve as Speaker if elected, Mr. Sophon reiterated his commitment to performing well in any position he holds. Additionally, he commented on the speculation that the Bhumjaithai Party would secure the First Deputy Speaker position, while the Pheu Thai Party would take the Second Deputy Speaker role, stating that current news suggests this arrangement.

Ms. Mallika Chiraphanvanich, Deputy Minister of Transport, also addressed rumors regarding her potential appointment as First Deputy Speaker, dismissing them as mere speculation, highlighting that no official discussions have taken place on the matter.
