Bangkok: "Sophon" has confirmed that the parliamentary vote for the next Prime Minister is scheduled for March 19. He expressed a desire for the government to gain full authority before Songkran, aiming to address and resolve the pressing issues faced by the public. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, ensuring they work in harmony without party divisions. Additionally, Dr. Warong proposed reducing lunch breaks to provide more time for parliamentary debates following the Prime Minister's election.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sophon Saram, Speaker of the House of Representatives, spoke after a ceremony where the royal decree appointing him and the Deputy Speakers was received. He described his appointment as a great honor and a significant act of royal grace for him and his colleagues. He pledged to adhere to the royal address given at Parliament's opening ceremony.
The 27th House of Representatives includes parties such as Bhumjaithai, Pheu Thai, and Prachachart, among others. Mr. Sophon reaffirmed their commitment to working diligently to build trust during this term. He stressed the need for a change in the parliamentary mindset, focusing on action rather than rhetoric. The House aims to address urgent issues concretely and resolve more serious matters through established mechanisms, while tackling regular problems through alternative channels.
On the legislative front, the focus will be on advancing legislation to help the executive branch navigate global crises. Mr. Sophon emphasized the importance of unity among leaders to set an example for teamwork, driving the Secretariat of the Parliament with the power of unity.

When questioned about Dr. Warong Dechgitvigrom's proposal to cut meal allowances for MPs during sessions, Mr. Sophon stated that the matter could be discussed, with a decision to follow.
