South Korea Pushes Cambodia for Action Against Online Scammers

Phnom penh: South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen to advance efforts in combating online scammers implicated in the death of a South Korean student. The meeting aimed to press ahead with a crackdown on these criminal activities.

According to Thai News Agency, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet shared about the meeting on social media, without providing specific details. The South Korean foreign ministry had previously announced on November 6 that Hyun would visit Cambodia from November 9-11 to enhance bilateral ties and discuss cooperative measures against scammers. Both nations are working towards finalizing a memorandum of understanding to initiate a “Korea-Cambodia Task Force” later this month. This initiative follows an agreement between President Lee Jae-myung and Hun Manet during an ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur in October, where they decided to establish the task force in November to address crimes affecting South Koreans in Cambodia.
