Speaker of the House Appointment Crucial for Party-List MP Adjustment

Bangkok: The process of adjusting party-list MPs within the National Security Council (NSC) hinges on the appointment of a new Speaker of the House, according to Mr. Siroj Patayapan, Secretary-General of the House of Representatives. This procedural step must be completed before Mr. Attawich can be moved up to the party-list MP position. The timeline for this is uncertain, particularly in relation to the upcoming Prime Ministerial vote.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Peerapan Salirathavipak's resignation as a party-list MP from the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party has left a vacancy that requires the Speaker of the House to announce the next MP. However, the absence of a current Speaker has delayed this process. The Secretary-General mentioned that Mr. Atthawich Suwannaphakdi is the next candidate from the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, but his appointment awaits the completion of the Speaker selection and royal appointment procedures.

The Secretary-General could not confirm if the party-list adjustment would occur before the Prime Minister's vote, but assured that it would be expedited once the Speaker is appointed by royal decree. Meanwhile, preparations for the new House of Representatives include a reorganization of office spaces for MPs. The People's Party offices are slated for the 8th floor, while the Bhumjaithai Party will occupy the 6th and 7th floors, reflecting a departure from the previous alphabetical arrangement of offices.
