Hat yai: The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has collaborated with volunteers from Hat Yai Municipality to launch a Big Cleaning Day aimed at revitalizing Hat Yai Railway Station as a royal merit-making offering to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, Rama IX. The initiative also marks the reopening of train services to Hat Yai Junction scheduled for December 7, 2025.
According to Thai News Agency, the event was organized following a receding flood situation in the area. Over 400 volunteers, including 200 SRT employees from central and regional offices and 200 volunteers from Hat Yai Municipality, participated in the extensive cleanup operation. The efforts focused on removing mud, garbage, and waste deposited by the floodwaters and involved sorting and collecting damaged equipment to restore the station to a safe and orderly condition.
Besides the station’s cleanup, the SRT has deployed civil engineering and signaling personnel to expedite inspections and repairs of railway infrastructure along the Hat Yai Junction-Sungai Kolok route, which was impacted by flooding. The restoration work includes reinforcing embankments, adjusting tracks, and inspecting signaling systems along the route. The project aims to ensure that all equipment is fully operational, allowing full train operations on the southern line, including routes from Bangkok to Hat Yai Junction-Yala and Sungai Kolok-Padang Besar, by December 14, 2025, facilitating a return to normal travel in the lower southern region.
The Big Cleaning Day project showcases the collaborative efforts of government agencies and local residents dedicated to restoring the nation’s vital infrastructure. The SRT has extended gratitude to all involved parties for their contributions and reaffirms its commitment to enhancing safety and service to ensure convenient and safe public travel.
