Bangkok: Heavy rains have lashed Surat Thani’s Chaiya District, causing flooding nearly a meter deep. The district has been working to drain water and set up assistance points for residents, particularly vulnerable groups.
According to Thai News Agency, military personnel brought trucks and flat-bottomed boats to assist villagers in Village No. 1, Wiang Subdistrict, Chaiya District, Surat Thani Province, who were affected by heavy rain and water flowing from the mountains into seven subdistricts. The district officials had to quickly drain the water and set up a waiting point to provide assistance to villagers, especially vulnerable groups.
The situation in Talat Chaiya Subdistrict Municipality remains concerning, particularly in the community area in front of Chaiya Hospital, where water levels are approximately one meter high. Residents are forced to sleep under the water as the water has inundated entire homes. Many roads are still closed to small vehicles.
