Bangkok: Police have identified the suspect involved in a shooting incident outside a popular bar in the Khao San area, which left two individuals injured. An arrest warrant is expected to be requested soon as authorities continue their investigation into what is believed to be a personal conflict.
According to Thai News Agency, a video circulating on a popular Facebook page shows a man firing a gun in front of a renowned entertainment venue on Khao San Road, behind Chana Songkhram Police Station. The incident caused panic among tourists and patrons at around 3:00 AM on January 31st. Reports suggest that the suspect is part of a group of "internet influencers from Thonburi."
Initial investigations revealed that two people were injured: a male tourist was shot in the left thigh, and a male employee of the shop was shot in the right shin. Both bullets passed through their legs, and they were transported to the hospital by paramedics, where they remain in stable condition. Authorities found a .38 Super handgun and a sharp folding knife at the scene, which have been collected as evidence.
The superintendent of Chanasongkhram Police Station stated that investigators have questioned witnesses and discovered that the perpetrators and their opponents were familiar with each other and had existing conflicts. They met at the entrance of the entertainment venue, which led to the shooting. The suspects have been identified and are currently being sought for questioning and further legal action.
Mr. Sahayot, a friend of one of the injured individuals, provided additional details, indicating that a man in his 40s, who had a previous conflict with them, returned with several others, brandishing a gun and shouting challenges. A scuffle ensued over the weapon, resulting in several shots being fired, although it is unclear who fired them.
Witnesses reported that two opposing groups were involved, one armed with knives and the other with guns. It is suspected that the conflict or feud originated outside the establishment. During the chaotic brawl, 6-7 gunshots were heard. Despite attempts by the restaurant's security guards to intervene, they were shot and injured, causing further panic. By the time authorities arrived, the perpetrators had fled. The security guards managed to seize a firearm and ammunition from the group and handed them over to the authorities as evidence.
