Bangkok: The Army Chief of Staff has reassured the public not to worry, affirming that Thai soldiers are providing comprehensive security and engaging in diplomatic efforts following media attacks by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.

According to Thai News Agency, General Chaiyapruk Duangprapat addressed the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border, highlighting the undisciplined and inexperienced nature of Cambodian soldiers, while emphasizing Thailand's vigilance during the Ramadan period, when incidents typically surge by 30%.

General Chaiyapruk, Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, explained that the Thai military is closely monitoring the border situation, employing all available resources to ensure the area's safety. He expressed confidence that there would be no issues, stating, "The Army remains prepared to take action."

In response to Hun Manet's accusations of Thai territorial encroachment through installation of containers and barbed wire, and his intention to pursue international legal action, General Chaiyapruk reassured that the Thai military is handling the matter diplomatically through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He emphasized that there is no cause for concern and that the military is fully prepared for any eventuality.

Addressing the perceived provocation and potential violation of joint agreements by Cambodian forces, General Chaiyapruk noted that Cambodian personnel were mostly new recruits and possibly unaware of the situation, highlighting the discipline and readiness of Thai soldiers.

Regarding the Prime Minister's directives, General Chaiyapruk disclosed that special instructions were given to focus on the southern border areas, with the Army Commander tasked to visit frequently to address violent incidents promptly. He also confirmed the Prime Minister's initiative to integrate intelligence agencies in Songkhla province and ongoing efforts to enhance intelligence gathering and interdepartmental support.

Emphasizing vigilance during Ramadan, General Chaiyapruk pointed out the statistical increase in incidents by over 30% in the lead-up to the fasting month, underscoring the need for heightened alertness throughout the period.
