Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army has firmly refuted Cambodia's accusations, asserting that Thailand's military actions were conducted strictly within the bounds of international law, targeting only military objectives. The Thai military emphasized that the damage incurred by Thailand due to Cambodian actions cannot be obscured by misleading narratives. According to Thai News Agency, the controversy arose after Mr. Neth Peaktra, Cambodia's Minister of Information, posted on Facebook alleging that bomb craters, damage to historical sites, and civilian casualties in Cambodia were the result of Thai aggression. Major General Winthai Suvari, speaking for the Royal Thai Army, clarified that Thailand's use of force adheres to international legal standards, with a focus on necessity and proportionality, and refrains from indiscriminate attacks. He contrasted this with Cambodia's actions, which reportedly impacted Thai civilian areas, causing casualties and property damage. The Thai Army maintains that its aerial strike s are directed exclusively at military threats affecting civilians and Thai military personnel. These targets are meticulously verified to minimize civilian impact and collateral damage. The Army also highlighted its commitment to preserving historical sites, in line with international law, despite evidence suggesting that Cambodia has militarized some of these locations, using them for troop deployment, weapon storage, and offensive operations. In particular, the Prasat Ta Kwai area has seen historical sites repurposed for military use, compromising their protected status. Thailand argues that when these sites pose a threat, measured military response is warranted to neutralize the danger, with efforts made to limit damage. Furthermore, security measures such as containers and barbed wire are installed to prevent incursions and reduce conflict potential, especially given past instances of illegal Cambodian landmine placements. These actions are characterized as preventive rather than provocative. Major Gen eral Winthai Santisuk reiterated the undeniable evidence of harm to Thai citizens from Cambodian weaponry, challenging attempts to distort facts through propaganda. He emphasized the international community's ability to discern truth from falsehoods and expressed Thailand's willingness to undergo a thorough, impartial investigation.
