Bangkok: His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen presided over the cremation ceremony of Dr. Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth. The royal cremation ceremony took place on August 8, 2026, at 5:19 PM at the Royal Crematorium located at Wat Thepsirin, Pom Prap Sattru Phai District. Dr. Prasert, who passed away on April 21, 2026, at the age of 93, was honored in a ceremony attended by members of the royal family, including Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who was present to receive the King upon arrival.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth was a prominent figure born on March 22, 1933. The son of Mr. Thongyu and Mrs. Boonrod Prasarttong-Osoth, he pursued his education at Assumption School, Triam Udom Suksa School, and eventually earned his bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. His career began in the medical field as a resident physician and lecturer at Siriraj Hospital, before transitioning into private business ventures spanning construction, oil drilling, medicine, and aviation. Dr. Prasert founded Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited and Bangkok Airways Public Company Limited, as well as a digital television enterprise.
Dr. Prasert's contributions to society extended beyond business. He held significant roles such as Member of the Senate, Member of the National Legislative Assembly, President of the Siriraj Medical Alumni Association under Royal Patronage, and Honorary Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Thailand. His dedication to medicine, public health, aviation, economic development, and public welfare earned him various awards and honors, including the Chainat Narenthra Award for Outstanding Public Health Professional in 2018, the Royal Award of the Dharma Chakra Pillar, and the "Honorary Physician" award from the Medical Council of Thailand, among others.
His awards and decorations include the First Class Order of the Crown of Thailand, the First Class Order of the White Elephant, the First Class Order of Direk Khunaporn, the Grand Order of the Vajiramongkut, and the Fourth Class Royal Medal of King Rama X, in addition to numerous foreign decorations. Dr. Prasert is survived by his wife, Mrs. Walley Prasartthong-Osoth, and their five children.
