Bangkok: Thai athletes have set an ambitious target to win 241 gold medals at the upcoming SEA Games.
According to Thai News Agency, representatives from eight sports associations, including football, rugby, skeet shooting, archery, rowing, bowling, netball, and cricket, have expressed confidence in their preparations and potential medal haul.
Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, and Mr. Paitoon Chutimakornkul, President of the Sports Photographers Association of Thailand, participated in the “Meet the Press” event for the 2025 SEA Games. This gathering was aimed at finalizing the readiness of the sports associations and assessing their medal prospects. The event highlighted the goal of winning 33 gold medals from these associations alone.
Football coach Mr. Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul, also known as “Coach Wang,” announced the selection of a starting eleven for the Football Association of Thailand, which blends established players with those who impressed during training in China. The Thai national team aims to secure four gold medals in football and futsal, leveraging the home advantage at Rajamangala National Stadium.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Kunthon Prachuapmoh, president of the Rugby Association of Thailand, stated that the rugby teams are in optimal physical condition, with a target of winning two gold medals. Singapore, the Philippines, and Malaysia are identified as key rivals in this sport.
The other associations have set their sights on various medal counts: skeet shooting aims for 3 gold medals, archery for 3-4, rowing for 18, bowling for 1, cricket for 2, and netball aims for at least 1 medal. Overall, 50 associations are participating in the SEA Games, collectively aspiring to achieve the target of 241 gold medals.
