Bangkok: The Thai national cycling team at the 33rd SEA Games is preparing to compete in all four categories, aiming to win six gold medals.
According to Thai News Agency, the readiness of the Thai national cycling team has been evident since the athletes commenced their training in December last year. The results from fitness tests in all categories, including road, track, BMX, and mountain bike, indicate that the team is prepared to compete for gold medals. This year’s competition will feature events in all four categories, with a total of 17 gold medals on offer: seven for road, two for BMX, three for mountain bike, and five for track. The Cycling Association has set a target of winning six gold medals.
General Decha Hemkrasri, president of the Cycling Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, has been closely monitoring the athletes’ training and addressing issues during their training camp. He confirmed the goal of securing six gold medals, with expectations of two from mountain biking, two from BMX, one or two from road racing, and one from track.
Notable athletes to watch include Sergeant Komet Sukprasert, Asia’s top-ranked BMX cyclist and world number 31, a three-time Asian champion, and Jai Angsuthasawit, a track cyclist and 2018 Asian Games gold medalist who is now fully fit.
Injured while training for the 2025 BMX Asian Championships in Japan, Ae Gometh shared that he has recovered significantly and can train normally. He stated that he feels no pressure from being considered a favorite for the gold medal and is ready to give his all in pursuit of a medal.
The association is utilizing sports science to aid in the athletes’ development across various aspects, including nutrition, physical therapy, psychology, and muscle building. Maj. Gen. Dr. Phusit Fuangfu, Vice President for Medical Affairs, is closely overseeing this development. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether the Thai national cycling team, having spent nearly a year in rigorous training and with previous international competition experience, will achieve their goal of winning six gold medals.
