Bangkok: The Thai Foundation is now accepting nominations to honor those who have brought fame to Thailand on the world stage in 2026. Entering its fifth year, the Thai Foundation is recognizing individuals, groups, or organizations with the "Public Diplomacy Award 2026." The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in conjunction with the Thai Foundation, held a press conference to announce the opening of nominations for this prestigious award at the Department of Information, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Panidol Patchimsawat, Acting Director-General of the Department of Information and Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Tharit Charungwat, Secretary-General of the Thai Foundation, jointly delivered the official press statement. The 'Public Diplomacy Award' honors those who have engaged in activities such as humanitarianism, public benefit, peace, human rights, culture, sports, media, creative economy, innovation, and sustainable development, which have significantly brought prestige to Thailand. Mr. Patchimsawat emphasized that diplomacy today extends beyond state relations, with people from various sectors acting as public diplomats by sharing positive stories about Thailand.
Former Ambassador Tharit Charungwat highlighted that the award project has been running continuously for five years. It has recognized individuals and organizations contributing to Thailand's reputation on the international stage. The increasing number of nominees each year reflects the award's growing recognition and the awareness in Thai society about the role of citizens in public diplomacy.
Past award recipients include Dr. Sunthorn Antrasen in 2022 for his mobile medical unit project, and Thai professional golfers Moriya and Ariya Jutanugarn in 2023. In 2024, Phra Phromphatcharayanamuni, the Siam Society under Royal Patronage, and National Artist Somtow Sucharitkul were honored. In 2025, GMMTV Company Limited was recognized for its role in promoting Thailand through entertainment media.
For the 2026 awards, 1-3 awards will be given, including an inscription of the name 'Goodwill' on the trophy displayed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, an honorary plaque, a replica trophy, certificates of merit, and prize money of 300,000 baht per prize. A subcommittee under the Thai Foundation will screen candidates and propose them to the Thai Foundation's board for final decision. Nominations are open until July 25, 2026, with results announced in September and the award ceremony later in the year. Nominations can be submitted via a form accessed through an attached QR code on the Thai Foundation's website.
