Thai Industries Face 7 Billion Baht Loss Due to Floods, Propose Recovery Measures

Chonburi:Bangkok The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has reported that recent flooding has resulted in significant losses for industries across 14 provinces, with damages estimated at over 7 billion baht. More than 2,000 members have been affected, with damage impacting machinery, electrical systems, raw materials, inventory, production, and logistics.

According to Thai News Agency, the Amata City Industrial Estate in Chonburi experienced flooding with water levels reaching 30-70 centimeters, affecting approximately 150 factories and causing 34 factories to halt production. This situation has disrupted transportation, parts delivery, and the continuity of the supply chain. Although conditions are improving in some areas, ongoing monitoring of water levels, rainfall, and drainage efficiency remains crucial to prevent further issues.

In response, FTI has proposed four key measures to accelerate recovery and enhance flood response capabilities. These include monitoring pollution and water quality, managing wastewater and industrial waste safely, expediting financial aid for SMEs, and upgrading business continuity plans.

Mr. Preeda Wachirathiensakul, Vice President of FTI, emphasized the need for an early warning system linking rainfall forecasts and drainage situations with high-risk area plans. Businesses in vulnerable areas, especially in the South, are urged to prepare by checking drainage systems, ensuring employee safety, and developing contingency plans to maintain business continuity.
