Bangkok: Dr. Ae, alongside Mr. Suchatvee Suwansawat, leader of the Thai Move Forward Party, spearheaded a press conference to announce the launch of a flood relief caravan targeting the southern regions. They emphasized the urgency of immediate action, including the establishment of a unified command center, appointing a spokesperson, identifying safe evacuation routes, restoring essential public utilities, and ensuring medical readiness.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suchatvee stressed the need for prompt solutions, highlighting the devastating impact of the floods in Mae Sai District, Nan Province, and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. He noted the dire situation in Hat Yai, an economic hub, which is now submerged, leaving residents unprepared and struggling to cope. Images of residents clinging to power lines and escaping through roofs underscore the severity of the crisis.
Mr. Suchatvee emphasized that the Thai Move Forward Party aims to be the authentic voice of the people, addressing flood causes without political bias, leveraging scientific and engineering expertise. He expressed commitment to representing all affected regions and vowed to tackle disasters with equity and fairness. The party has initiated a donation-driven relief effort and is actively coordinating assistance for affected citizens.
Aerial analyses of Hat Yai District prompted recommendations for immediate action, including the creation of a supreme command center and identification of safe routes using satellite data. Restoring utilities and prioritizing evacuation for vulnerable groups were also highlighted. Suchatvee urged Prime Ministerial intervention to lead and provide support during this emergency.
The Thai Kao Mai Party, led by Dr. Kanes Wangpaichitr, outlined economic measures to mitigate the crisis’s impact. Addressing the economic halt caused by recent thefts, the party proposed low-interest loans, a liquidity fund, debt suspension, and long-term infrastructure investment. These measures aim to support disaster victims, maintain financial stability, and prevent job losses.
The party called for immediate government action to implement short-term economic solutions within 30 days and proposed collaboration between the Ministry of Finance, Bank of Thailand, and financial institutions. The initiative aims to restore purchasing power, sustain SMEs, reduce unemployment, and build flood prevention infrastructure in the medium to long term.
