Bangkok: The Thai men’s football team has advanced to the SEA Games gold medal match, where they will face Vietnam. The team secured their spot in the final by narrowly defeating Malaysia 1-0 in a tense semi-final clash at the 33rd SEA Games, held at the Rajamangala National Stadium.
According to Thai News Agency, the Thai team, 16-time champions of the SEA Games, showcased a strong performance under the guidance of coach Wang Thawatchai Damrongongtrakul. Key players included Yosakorn Burapha, who has been a standout with six goals in the tournament, Thanakrit Chotimueangpak, and team captain Seksan Ratree.
The match saw an early breakthrough for Thailand as Yosakorn Burapha scored with a precise free kick just 8 minutes into the game. Malaysia faced an uphill battle when Nabil Yusuf received his second yellow card in the 16th minute, reducing his team to 10 men. The first half concluded with Thailand holding a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Thailand maintained their composure and control, keeping Malaysia at bay and securing their victory. The Thai team’s next challenge will be the gold medal match against Vietnam, set to take place at the Rajamangala National Stadium on December 18th at 7:00 PM.
