Bangkok: NSM participated in the "Thai Museum Day 2026" activities under the theme "Thai Museums: The Bridges Uniting the World."
According to Thai News Agency, the National Science Museum (NSM) played a significant role in enhancing the Thai museum network's influence. Dr. Kannika Chen, Deputy Director of NSM, alongside Ms. Jeerapatcharin Attajinda, Director of the Science for Community Division, and Dr. Vijitra Suriyakul Na Ayutthaya, Director of the Science Museum Academic Division, were present at the press conference for 'Thai Museum Day 2026.' The event was led by Ms. Yutika Isarangkun Na Ayutthaya, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, and organized by the National Museum Bureau under the Ministry of Culture. It showcased the importance of Thai museums as spaces for public learning that connect people, communities, and diverse knowledge, promoting sustainable social development. The event supports the Ministry of Culture's policy of leveraging cultural capital for economic and social progress. It was held at the Phra Siwamokkhapiman Hall, National Museum Bangkok.
Dr. Kannika emphasized NSM's commitment to serving as a 'bridge' that connects science, technology, and innovation with both Thai society and the global community. This aligns with the event's theme, 'Thai Museums Connecting the World.' She highlighted that science serves as a universal language that bridges diverse people. NSM's exhibitions aim to provide opportunities for knowledge exchange, inspiration, and the cultivation of rational thinking among young people and the general public. NSM is poised to continue its collaboration with the Thai museum network to enhance lifelong learning experiences and elevate Thai museums as internationally competitive learning resources.
A notable feature of this year's event is the collaboration between museum networks to offer public learning journeys through four educational routes. Route 1, "Roots of the City, the Path of Rattanakosin," is led by the National Museum Bureau; Route 2 is led by Mahidol University, Salaya; Route 3, led by Museum Siam, explores communities and historic neighborhoods along both banks of the Chao Phraya River; and Route 4 is led by the Constitutional Court Museum. Additionally, a seminar titled "Strategies for Driving Thai Museums and Their Role on the Global Stage" will feature Dr. Vijitra Suriyakul Na Ayutthaya sharing insights and experiences with representatives from various museum institutions on the role of Thai museums in fostering a learning society and international cooperation.
In celebration of Thai Museum Day 2026, NSM also organized special activities designed to promote learning for youth and the general public at NSM Khlong Ha, Pathum Thani Province. This included an exhibition titled 'The Connection of Wisdom and Science: China-Thailand' on the 1st floor of the Science Museum, which highlights the scientific, technological, and intellectual connections between Thailand and China. Additionally, NSM offered free admission to the Museum Trail: Human Ecology Trail: Dwellings at the Rama IX Museum from September 19-30, 2026, and free entry to the Blind Experience by NSM at the NSM Science Square, The Street Ratchada, Bangkok from September 19-21, 2026, to provide sensory-based learning experiences and raise awareness of coexistence in a diverse society.
