Bangkok: The Thai Prime Minister held discussions with the President of Myanmar, emphasizing friendship and mutual trust, and agreeing to continue cooperation in all dimensions to improve the quality of life for the people of both countries. Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul met with President Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar at the Thai Khu Fah Building during an official visit, where they discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors including security, economy, trade, and development.
According to Thai News Agency, the meeting underscored the close friendship and strong relationship between Thailand and Myanmar. Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, highlighted the significance of the President's visit, noting it reflects trust and good neighborliness. The Prime Minister congratulated the President on assuming office and expressed Thailand's readiness to support Myanmar's participation in ASEAN and foster sustainable growth for both nations.
The discussions included maintaining peace and stability along the Thai-Myanmar border, addressing transnational crimes, and reinforcing collaboration between relevant agencies. Economic collaboration was emphasized as a pillar of the bilateral relationship, with plans to expedite regulatory reductions, enhance border trade, and develop transportation connectivity. Additionally, Thailand will host the Joint Trade Commission meeting and promote energy cooperation and private sector investment.
On labor issues, the Prime Minister welcomed a labor cooperation agreement emphasizing the importance of Myanmar workers to the Thai economy and committed to protecting their rights and welfare. Environmental issues were also addressed, with plans to tackle transboundary haze, river pollution, and improve water resource management and flood prevention.
Thailand confirmed its role as a development partner with Myanmar, focusing on agriculture, public health, education, and the application of space and geospatial technology for development and disaster management. The discussions concluded with the exchange of cooperation documents in labor cooperation, water quality management, and space technology, demonstrating a commitment to resolving issues and benefiting people in both countries.
