Surin: A 13th Thai soldier lost his leg after stepping on a landmine at Chong Rayi, Surin Province, and sustaining serious injuries. The 2nd Army Region explained that it was an old landmine buried deep in the ground, covered by fallen leaves and debris, making it undetectable.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred at 6:44 AM. The 2nd Army Region received a report that a soldier from the 233rd Infantry Company, stationed at the Erawan operational base, stepped on a landmine in the Chong Rayi area, Kab Choeng District, Surin Province. Upon investigation, the soldier was identified as Private Dechsak Trikham. The explosion caused his right leg to be severed, while his left arm and left leg were hit by shrapnel, leaving him in critical condition.

Following the incident, officers from the unit provided immediate first aid before transporting the injured person to Kab Choeng Hospital and then by helicopter to Surin Hospital for further treatment, where doctors are closely monitoring their condition.

An inspection of the landmine site at Erawan Base, Chong Rayi, revealed that the bomb was buried deep in the soil, covered with fallen leaves, making it difficult to detect, despite continuous military inspections. Authorities are currently conducting a detailed investigation in collaboration with relevant agencies to strengthen security measures and prevent recurrence. They are also closely monitoring the condition of the injured soldier, as this marks the 13th leg loss suffered by a Thai soldier.
