Thai Songwriter Falls Victim to Scam, Loses 5,000 Baht

Bangkok: Paiboon Saengduean, a renowned Thai songwriter, reported to the Muang Loei Police Station that he had been deceived by a female scammer, losing over 5,000 baht in the process. The songwriter, who had advertised his house for sale at a price exceeding 4,000,000 baht, faced a financial setback after being tricked into transferring funds supposedly for travel expenses to Phuket.

According to Thai News Agency, Paiboon detailed his unfortunate encounter with a woman named “Pla,” who expressed interest in purchasing his property. Claiming to reside in a lavish 50-million-baht pool villa in Phuket, Pla gained Paiboon’s trust but refused to provide her Facebook details, citing a previous hacking incident where she allegedly lost 12 million baht. Communication shifted to the Line app, where Pla introduced a supposed foreign couple interested in buying the house at a lucrative price. She arranged for a meeting in Phuket, leading Paiboon to check flight details.

As the scenario unfolded, Pla directed Paiboon to a young man named M, who was responsible for travel arrangements. Paiboon agreed to transfer 5,104 baht to cover flight expenses. However, after the transfer, all communication ceased, and he realized he had been scammed. This incident marked the second time Paiboon fell victim to such deceit. He urges others to verify identities through reliable means, such as Facebook, to avoid similar traps.
