Bangkok:Saisunee Chaena is leading the 14-member Thai national wheelchair fencing team to the 2026 Asian Para Games in Japan, with the aim of securing a gold medal.
According to Thai News Agency, Saithasunee Ja-na, a three-time Paralympic gold medalist from the 2024 Paralympics, is guiding her team through intensive training sessions. The team is preparing to compete in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from October 18-24, building on their previous success at the Hangzhou games where Thailand garnered two golds, three silvers, and five bronze medals.
Waew Saisunee, who clinched gold in the women's individual épée event at the 2022 Asian Para Games, expressed that the team is ready for the upcoming competition. As the defending champion, she sees this as a chance to demonstrate her skills while focusing on one match at a time, aiming to perform her best without added pressure to bring home another gold medal for Thailand.
The team consists of seven female athletes Saisunee Chana, Duean Nakprasit, Thitirat Pengprasitphong, Apinya Thongdaeng, Panadda Srithong, Sutin Srita, and Jintana Sripak.
On the men's side, seven athletes including Wisit Kingmanao, Chitipat Charoenta, Boonsiri Sanitmuenwai, Phupha Saesim, Viroj Sudjai, Krisada Pakdee, and Warut Kweekhet, are in rigorous training in Suphan Buri province. They are set to depart for Japan on October 11th. The coaching team has identified China and South Korea as major competitors, but the Thai team is determined to fight for a medal. The Thai wheelchair fencing team is ready to showcase their skills at the 2026 Asian Para Games.
