Thai Youth Ice Hockey Team Triumphs in World Championship Division 3 Group B

Sarajevo: The Thai youth ice hockey team emerged victorious in the World Championship Division 3 Group B, clinching a hard-fought win against Iceland to secure their promotion to Division 3 Group A next year.

According to Thai News Agency, the U18 Ice Hockey World Championship, Division 3, Group B, is currently taking place in Bosnia, featuring six competing teams: Thailand, Bosnia, Turkmenistan, Iceland, Luxembourg, and South Africa. Thailand's national team showcased an outstanding performance in the first round, winning all three of their matches against teams from Group A. Their campaign began with a commanding 12-3 victory over host nation Bosnia, followed by a 4-2 win against South Africa, and concluded with another 4-2 triumph over Iceland, securing them the top spot in Group B.

In the second round, Thailand decisively defeated Turkmenistan, who placed second in Group B, with a remarkable 14-0 scoreline, earning their place in the final against Iceland. The final match was a thrilling encounter, with both teams exchanging control and creating numerous scoring opportunities. Iceland initially led 1-0 in the 3rd minute, but Thailand equalized in the 18th minute through Chayapol Charasakorn. The second period saw Iceland regain the lead at 2-1, but Theethatthan Lueangon equalized again for Thailand just two minutes into the third period. Chayapol Charasakorn then put Thailand ahead 3-2 in the 47th minute, only for Iceland to level the score at 3-3 ten minutes later.

With the game ending in a draw, it proceeded to five minutes of overtime. Thailand dominated the extra period, with Chayapol Charasakorn intercepting the ball and netting the winning goal in the final minute, securing a 4-3 victory over Iceland. This win not only crowned Thailand as the U-18 Ice Hockey World Championship Division 3 Group B champions but also earned them a promotion to Division 3 Group A next year.
