The 2024 World Junior Taekwondo Championships have kicked off, with three young Thai kickers competing on the first day. Follow the results and the latest news from Chuncheon, South Korea. The Chuncheon 2024 World Taekwondo Junior Championships in Chuncheon, South Korea, officially opened. The opening ceremony was held yesterday evening (September 30) with Cho Jeong-won, President of the World Taekwondo Federation, as chairman. More than 1,000 youth athletes from around the world participated in the competition, from 127 member countries, as well as athletes from neutral nations and refugee teams, competing for 20 gold medals in 10 weight categories for both men and women. The Thai youth kicker team sent 16 people to compete, divided into 8 men and 8 women. Asst. Prof. Pimol Srivikorn, President of the Taekwondo Association of Thailand, who traveled to attend the World Taekwondo Federation General Meeting and the opening ceremony, along with Mr. Thanatit Raktabutra, Secretary-General of the Association, re vealed that for this event, we sent 16 athletes to participate. The Association is hoping for a gold medal because every time in the past, our athletes have always won gold medals. As for how many medals they will win, we have to wait and see. We do not want to put pressure on the athletes. As for the World Youth Stage, it is considered the biggest stage, second only to the Youth Olympic Games. If anyone wins a medal, they have the opportunity to advance to the senior national team in the future. We ask Thai sports fans to support the athletes. For the first day of competition this morning, Thai youth taekwondo athletes competed in 3 categories, starting with the 52 kg women's category. In the first round, "Nong Bua" Panbua Mormat, a 16-year-old female kicker from Bangkok, the winner of the gold medal at the 2023 Asian Youth Championships, 52 kg category in Lebanon, in red armor, met Sakura Oshinden from Japan. The result was that "Nong Bua" took advantage of the timing to intercept kicks to the body and hi t the target more, winning 2-0, 3-0 in both rounds, advancing to the second round to meet Ramdin Diaani from India. Pair 2, 63 kg. men's category, first round, "Nong Boom" Nattawat Boonchang, a 15-year-old kicker from Bangkok, winner of the bronze medal at the 2023 Youth World Championships in Bosnia in the 61 kg. blue armor category, met Khaleed Alhunaif from Kuwait. The result was that "Nong Boom" threw out his attacks fiercely, blocking kicks to the head and body many times, winning by a landslide 2-0, 13-0 in both rounds, advancing to the second round to meet the winner between Gustavo Andres Garcia da Silva from Puerto Rico and Hisjan Simonovki from Northern Macedonia. The last pair, 59 kg women's division, first round, "Nong Nom Sen" Natnicha Saimuang, a 16-year-old female kicker from Phuket, winner of the bronze medal at the 2024 Korea Youth Open, Blue Armor, met Anna Sofia Guevara Ramirez from Mexico. The result was that "Nong Nom Sen" tried to move forward with her attacks, but was blocked by Ramir ez with several head kicks.
