Bangkok: The Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) recently conducted a simulated voting process to prepare more than 400 election officials for the upcoming parliamentary and referendum elections. This initiative aims to ensure that all officials are well-versed in the updated operational guidelines and legal requirements essential for the election day.
According to Thai News Agency, the simulation, led by Mr. Anan Suwannarat, Election Commissioner, and Acting Lieutenant Colonel Phaskorn Siriphakayaporn, Deputy Secretary-General of the Election Commission, involved 200 participants. The exercise was designed to familiarize election personnel from all 77 provinces with the procedures to be followed, thereby supporting the honest and lawful conduct of the elections.
The simulation also included scenarios of potential unrest and special voter needs at polling stations. These scenarios addressed issues such as voters wishing to participate only in the referendum, handling voter illness due to long queues, and providing assistance to elderly and disabled voters. The exercise aimed to equip polling officials with the necessary skills to manage these situations legally and effectively.
Additionally, the demonstration provided guidance on handling election law violations, such as ballot destruction. It emphasized the need for polling station committees to report such incidents to local authorities for appropriate legal action.
