Bangkok: The Thai women's national team lost 0-1 to China, finishing as group runners-up in the AFC U-20 Women's Asian Cup 2026. The match took place at Thammasat Stadium, where Thailand aimed to secure a top position in Group A against China, a former champion in the tournament.
According to Thai News Agency, the game commenced with China exerting early pressure. In the 15th minute, China nearly took the lead when Zheng Yujia's goal was disallowed for offside. However, China broke the deadlock in the 29th minute with a powerful shot from Xiao Yafei, which the Thai goalkeeper couldn't stop, giving China a 1-0 lead.
Despite Thailand's efforts to equalize in the second half, they couldn't find the back of the net. The match concluded with Thailand losing 0-1, placing them as Group A runners-up and securing a spot in the quarterfinals. They are set to face the runner-up of Group B in the next stage. China, having topped the group, will play against the best third-placed team from Group B or C.
In a parallel encounter at Nonthaburi Stadium, Vietnam played against Bangladesh. The first half ended goalless, but Vietnam capitalized on a mistake by the Bangladesh goalkeeper early in the second half. Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh scored the only goal of the match, leading Vietnam to a 1-0 victory.
Vietnam's win provided them with three significant points, keeping them in contention for a place in the next round as one of the best third-placed teams. Bangladesh, on the other hand, faced their third defeat and finished at the bottom of the group.
