Assumption United Shines on First Day of GLO Cup 2026 Bangkok Qualifying Rounds


Bangkok: Assumption United, the defending champions, demonstrated a strong start in the GLO Cup 2026 Bangkok qualifying rounds. Our Lady of Mary and Nonthaburi also progressed in two categories on the first day of matches.



According to Thai News Agency, the GLO Cup 2026, a national youth eight-a-side football championship for the Under-13 and Under-15 age groups, began its first regional qualifying round in Bangkok and surrounding areas at the King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang Stadium. The event is organized by the Government Lottery Office (GLO) and features several teams competing for a place in the Thailand National Championship.



In the first round, 48 teams are participating in each category, divided into 16 groups of three teams each. Teams compete in a round-robin format, with the group winners moving to the Round of 16. These teams will then compete in a knockout system to determine the regional champions. The eight teams reaching the quarter-finals in the Bangkok zone will qualify for the national championship.



On the first day, Assumption United, in the Under-13 category, defeated both Team A and Team B of Port FC U13, winning their group and advancing to the next round. Additionally, Bangkok Metropolitan Sports School and Our Lady of Sathorn School secured their places in the next round with wins in both matches.



In the Under-15 category, Nonthaburi Junior surprised many by defeating Ratchawinit Bangkhen from last year, advancing to the knockout round alongside their younger U13 team. Our Lady of Sathorn also advanced in both categories.

The group stage will continue for two more days, from April 8-9, 2026, to select the final 16 teams in each age group for the knockout rounds on April 11-12, 2026. The knockout matches will be streamed live on Facebook and YouTube: GLO Cup.



Additionally, on April 10, 2026, selections for the GLO STAR project will take place to identify promising young players. These players will have the opportunity to train in Japan, enhancing their skills for Thai football’s future.
