Bangkok: The Royal Thai Police recently convened the 40th ASEANAPOL Database System Technical Committee (ADSTC) meeting, focusing on the advancement of the transnational crime database system across the ASEAN region.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Maj. Gen. Chaturaphat Phiromkaew, Deputy Spokesperson of the Royal Thai Police, announced that Pol. Lt. Gen. Udon Yomcharoen, Assistant Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police, led the opening ceremony at the Chatrium Grand Hotel in Bangkok. The meeting gathered 30 representatives from the 10 ASEAN member nations-Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam-alongside representatives from the ASEANAPOL Secretariat.
The ADSTC meeting serves as an essential technical forum within the ASEAN Police Forces (ASEANAPOL) framework. It plays a pivotal role in the development and management of a crime information exchange system among the member states. The committee's responsibilities include advancing the ASEANAPOL database system, integrating intelligence and criminal case data, overseeing the Electronic ASEANAPOL Database System (e-ADS), and spearheading the development of an enhanced system, e-ADS 2.0, to improve the efficiency of information exchange.
The meeting was centered around four primary objectives: evaluating the development and enhancement of the ASEANAPOL database system, sharing experiences in information technology and transnational crime investigation, discussing optimal utilization of the database system, and presenting technical recommendations at higher-level gatherings like the ASEANAPOL Conference.
