Bangkok: Thailand is accelerating the export of its first batch of 40,000 tons of rice to China, aiming to complete the process by February. The Prime Minister and the Minister of Commerce engaged in discussions with the Chinese Ambassador to expedite this export, which is part of a larger framework involving 500,000 tons, with full delivery expected by 2026.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, along with Minister of Commerce Supajee Suthamphan and their delegation, met with Ambassador Zhang Jianwei at the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok to discuss the export plans. This effort is a key priority within a cooperation agreement that aims to deliver 500,000 tons of Thai rice to China. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for China's ongoing support in importing Thai rice and highlighted the positive developments in economic and tourism relations between the two countries.

During the discussions, both parties addressed the progress on trade cooperation, particularly focusing on the scheduled shipment of 40,000 tons of rice by February 2026. The talks emphasized the need to accelerate additional orders to achieve the 500,000-ton goal by the end of the year. The Chinese representatives confirmed their commitment to being a crucial market for Thai exports despite the challenging global trade environment.

Investment discussions also took place, with both sides agreeing on the importance of regulating business activities to prevent illegal practices. The Chinese side expressed readiness to collaborate with Thailand in enforcing legal standards and tightening controls on product quality and customs procedures.

The meeting also touched on the potential for Chinese investment in Thailand's high-tech industries, including robotics. Chinese companies are expected to expand their investments in Thailand, with an estimated value exceeding ten billion baht, which is anticipated to create jobs and boost the competitiveness of Thai industries.

Infrastructure cooperation was another focal point, particularly the high-speed rail project, considered strategic for regional economic connectivity. Both sides reiterated their commitment to fostering continuous cooperation in this area.

Concluding the discussions, both countries affirmed their resolve to strengthen Thai-Chinese relations across various sectors. China reassured its role as a vital market for Thai products and its willingness to continue collaboration in trade, investment, and infrastructure.
