Seoul: Thais residing in South Korea have commenced overseas voting in the elections and referendum. Voting began today at 9:00 AM local time and will continue until January 28th. This process includes general elections for constituency and party-list Members of Parliament (MPs) as well as a referendum.
According to Thai News Agency, a total of 6,976 Thais in South Korea have registered to vote in the overseas elections. Of these, 3,158 voters opted to cast their ballots by mail, while 2,348 chose to vote at the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul. Additionally, 1,470 voters utilized mobile units for casting their votes. For the referendum, 4,529 Thais registered, with 1,985 voting by mail, 1,644 at the embassy, and 900 via mobile units.
At the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul, a designated waiting area has been set up for citizens voting abroad. Voters are allowed entry in a staggered manner to manage the flow efficiently. Upon arrival, officials have voters sign in, after which they are issued ballot papers for both constituency and party-list elections along with a brief explanation of the ballot colors.
Once voters have cast their ballots, they submit them to officials stationed at the ballot boxes. A yellow ballot box is designated for the referendum, while election ballots for both types of parliamentary elections are placed in a single white envelope, securely sealed and signed by the polling station official. These envelopes are then placed in a single ballot box, to be collected and sent to various constituencies in Thailand for sorting.
Counting of the referendum ballots will occur on February 9th at the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul. The process will adhere to the legal requirement of completing the count within 48 hours, using Thailand's time zone, starting on February 8th at 5:00 PM.
