Thaksin Shinawatra Taken into Custody at Bangkok Remand Prison

Bangkok: The Department of Corrections has taken Thaksin into custody in prison in accordance with regulations. On September 9, 2025, the Bangkok Remand Prison, led by the prison commander and relevant officials, received Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra from the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions for detention in accordance with the court’s verdict to impose a prison sentence on the defendant, with a sentence of 1 year in prison.

According to Thai News Agency, the Department of Corrections, through the Bangkok Remand Prison, has taken Mr. Thaksin into custody and entered the new inmate admission process in accordance with the Department’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Upon admission, prison officers will verify that the inmate is the person listed on the warrant. They will then register his/her history, conduct a body search in accordance with standard search and contraband protection procedures, conduct a health check, and manage the inmate’s belongings. They will then be briefed on the rules and regulations before being transferred to the reception area to await classification.

Later, at 5:30 p.m., the Bangkok Remand Prison, designated by the Department of Corrections as a pretrial center (HUB), transferred Mr. Thaksin to Klong Prem Central Prison, as he is a convicted prisoner. This ensures appropriate segregation of prisoners. Regarding Mr. Thaksin’s detention, the Department of Corrections wishes to inform that it has strictly complied with the law, its authority, and relevant standards of practice for prisoner control.
