Bangkok: Thammanat Phromphao has hinted at commanding the support of at least 80 MPs, including those from smaller parties, as he positions himself to potentially join the government led by the Bhumjaithai Party. He expressed his desire to work within his area of expertise, specifically at the Ministry of Agriculture, contingent on an invitation from the leading party.

According to Thai News Agency, Captain Thammanat Phromphao, who currently serves as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, recently met with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, the leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, during a Cabinet meeting. Although the meeting did not involve discussions on forming a government, it was an opportunity for mutual congratulations. Thammanat highlighted that the combined votes from MPs of both parties could surpass half of the House of Representatives, with the Kla Tham Party holding 58 seats and potentially reaching a total of 80 with additional support from smaller parties.

Captain Thammanat emphasized that the formation of the government hinges on the leading party's decisions regarding which parties to invite to join the coalition, while maintaining mutual respect among parties.

Should the Kla Tham Party be invited to join, Thammanat expressed a clear interest in areas aligned with his expertise, particularly the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. As a mid-sized party, their involvement would depend on the decisions of the leading party.

When questioned about the smaller parties that might align with the Kla Tham Party, Captain Thammanat withheld specific names, citing ongoing discussions. Nonetheless, he confirmed the aim to consolidate support to enhance the party's policies for the benefit of the public.
